Waterways
Prince of Wales Northern
Heritage Centre
The Waterways Exhibit was presented during the winter of 2024. All pieces were from the museum's collection exploring the topic of water, and divided into five themes, each occupied by a bay and associated column. It featured artwork from different artists in a variety of styles and eras.
I worked alongside a colleague to construct five panels, one for each theme. We created laser-cut titles and topographic shapes based on lakes throughout the NWT, adding a tactile, geographical dimension to the show. This design echoed the landscape and topography of the NWT.
I illustrated and installed the watercolor backgrounds. This was an unconventionally bold approach, aligning with the curator's vision and refined through input from a working group. This gave the diverse collection of artwork a cohesive feel, focusing it around a central theme.
Throughout the process, I suggested adding titles and organizing the body text into smaller paragraphs to increase readability.
This was a project that I managed from start to finish, overseeing the budget, scheduling, procuring materials, and working with multiple stakeholders, including the curator, the working group, and another designer. The result was a stunning exhibit that communicated the vast landscape of the north.
